Intent:
Science is everywhere and our children are growing up in a world where they need to be scientifically educated in order to succeed. The Science curriculum at Beechview aims to nurture inquisitive scientists and ensure that all pupils: develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics; develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them; and are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. Children are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.
We aim to ensure that our students are receiving an exciting and stimulating science curriculum in which all our children, from whatever background, will be excited by scientific concepts and learn the skills of investigation and enquiry they need to fully engage with science in the world around them as well as in their future careers. The school also works closely with Marsh, our main partner Infant school, to ensure that there is strong continuity in the experiences of their children, as they progress to us as they move to Key Stage 2.
