"Nurturing ambitious learners within the Marlow Education Trust"

Welcome to Beechview Academy.

Handwriting

The Intent, implementation and Impact of our Curriculum for English- Handwriting:

Intent

At Beechview Academy, we encourage children to take responsibility and pride in their work through our handwriting expectations; improving the quality of presentation.

Implementation

We teach explicit handwriting skills across the school to ensure children are writing legibly and we follow the continuous cursive handwriting style.

Teachers follow our handwriting progression document. Year 3 children have daily handwriting lessons; children in Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 have handwriting lessons three times a week. These lessons are focused on letter formation using the letter families, spacing, letter height, joins and capitals.

Children throughout the school who are unable to write legibly will attend handwriting interventions for more intensive teaching and practice to take place.

Impact

Children leave Beechview Academy being able to write legibly; with the majority of them using cursive handwriting as their style. Children leave with writing stamina and are able to produce high quality presentations.
