Beechview Academy Curriculum Statement
Intent
Beechview Academy aims to create a learning environment in which we prepare young people for a happy, confident entry to the world. We aim to provide our pupils with opportunities to develop as confident and independent learners that have high aspirations and believe in themselves; helping them to make good friends and to develop a wide range of interests and skills as well as inspiring them to achieve academic excellence. Beechview offers a broad and balanced curriculum, developing the children’s moral, spiritual, social and cultural understanding, inspiring our children to achieve their best. We aim for all our children to thrive with challenges and to develop a love of learning. Our core learning aims are woven into all that we do and supported by our behaviour policy. We want our children to leave Beechview Academy as children that are:
Beechview Academy's Curriculum takes its fundamental objectives from the National Curriculum and also provides opportunities that make up the wider curriculum resulting in a vibrant and highly enriched curriculum. At Beechview the learning journey for ALL is placed at the very centre of the curriculum, drawing upon purposeful real-life experiences to offer meaningful outcomes. We want our curriculum to enable all young people to become:
Beechview Academy is proud to serve our local community and aim to use it as the centre point in our curriculum. In planning our curriculum we have had to recognise the very wide social and economic backgrounds of our families. Many of our children come from highly supportive and ambitious families with an important minority also facing additional challenges.
Beechview Academy’s curriculum is carefully designed to ensure coverage and progression with children being exposed to a broad and balanced range of subjects. Our curriculum aims to build on children’s prior learning and is designed to allow children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become the critical thinkers successful knowledge acquisition requires them to be. In our curriculum knowledge, skills and concepts are clearly developed in a progressive and age-appropriate way, supporting deep learning in all areas.
At Beechview we have labelled each half term with a whole school theme which has allowed us to ensure the major curriculum areas play a key role as well as creating extra opportunities to learn about careers, life in the real world and key people within that field. We hope to inspire and ignite a passion for all subject areas by delving deep into the following themes:-
Our curriculum aims to closely link the children to their community whilst also opening up consideration of the wider world. This aims to give them a sense of belonging to their community and more, where they have the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong reflective learners.
